Kentucky Butter Cake

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan.
    • In a large bowl, beat the granulated sugar and melted butter together until light and fluffy.
    • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Mix in the vanilla extract.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
    • Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan.
  2. Bake the Cake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 55 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Prepare the Butter Sauce:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, cubed butter, and water.
    • Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Do not let it boil.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Glaze the Cake:
    • Once the cake is completely cooled, use a skewer or fork to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
    • Pour 1/4 cup of the butter sauce evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
    • Let the cake stand for a few minutes to absorb the sauce.
