How and when to clean the filter of your dishwasher so that your plates and glasses shine

Introduction: If you have noticed a drop in the cleanliness of your dishes after a dishwasher cycle, it may be high time to inspect and clean the filter of your dishwasher. Unknown to many users, even before I discovered this crucial information, the dishwasher filter plays a key role in maintaining the optimal performance of the machine.

Understanding the Role of the Filter: The main function of the dishwasher filter is to capture these unpleasant food particles that detach from the dishes during the washing process. Generally located at the bottom of the dishwasher, either in the centre or in the rear corners, the filter adopts a conical shape with a round top and mesh sides.

Steps for an Effective Maintenance: To start this maintenance journey, start by gently pushing the bottom basket to the side. Locate the filter, usually in the center or in one of the back corners, and with a single twist, detach the top and pull it. A quick visual inspection will guide your next steps. If the filter appears to be relatively clean, rapid flushing underwater should be sufficient. However, if a layer of stubborn and inlaid food is present, dip the filter into warm soapy water for about 20 minutes. Follow this with a slight rubbing with a small soft bristle brush, making sure that all residues are removed before a full flushing.
