Homemade Play Dough: A Fun and Creative Activity

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and cream of tartar. Mix well to ensure even distribution of the ingredients.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients
    • In another bowl, mix the water, vegetable oil, and food coloring.
  3. Combine and Cook
    • Pour the dry ingredient mixture into a slow cooker. Add the wet ingredient mixture and stir everything thoroughly.
  4. Cook the Dough
    • Position a tea towel under the lid of the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 45-60 minutes. Stir frequently during the first 30 minutes and occasionally thereafter.
  5. Check for Doneness
    • The dough is ready when it forms a cohesive mass and no longer sticks to the sides of the slow cooker. To test, take out a small portion, shape it into a ball, and let it cool in the freezer for a few minutes. If it doesn’t stick to your fingers when handled, it’s done. You can then return the test ball to the rest of the dough.
  6. Cool and Store
    • Remove the entire mixture from the slow cooker, knead it until smooth, and place it in a container to cool. Once cooled, store the play dough in an airtight container or ziplock bag to keep it fresh and pliable.

Remember, this play dough is for playing, not eating. Enjoy your homemade red play dough!
